Kart Racing Series on Hold at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Final construction delayed by wet spring weather; opening targeted for June 1

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has postponed the opening of its new Kart Racing Series due to wet ground conditions worsened by weekend rain. The season was scheduled to open on Sunday, May 11; the same circumstances postponed the opening of the stock car season.

A new 1/7-mile asphalt karting track was paved in November with final construction – including several improvements focused on safety – planned for late April. A hard winter and wet spring have left the grounds at and near the kart track saturated and unsuitable for heavy construction equipment to work without causing damage to both the karting track and the half-mile stock car track.

As a result, races on May 11 and May 26 have been cancelled in order to allow the area to dry and for construction to be completed properly. The targeted opening date is now Sunday, June 1. A date on Sunday, August 31 has been added as the season finale.

“We are extremely disappointed that the Kart Racing Series won’t start on time,” Devil’s Bowl Speedway owner Mike Bruno said. “This project is two years in the making, and the support we’ve received from racers young and old has been outstanding. The track itself is ready, but several improvements need to be made in order to make it safer for the racers. The weather has put everything behind by a month, but construction will begin immediately as soon as the land is dry enough.”

The Kart Racing Series at Devil’s Bowl Speedway will host racing in seven classes for drivers of all experience levels, age five and older. The series will also be joined by “Mini Cup” cars – small-scale versions of full-size Late Model stock cars.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4. For more information, call (802) 265-3112 or visit www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com.
