Double Features, Kids Bike Races on tap at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Modified and Mini Stock classes to double up on Friday, June 27

WEST HAVEN, VT – Race fans will see double as the on Friday, June 27 at Rutland County’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Both the Bond Auto Parts Modified and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will run twin feature races at the event, in addition to racing for the Renegade and SK Light classes. A Kids Bicycle Race event is also on tap, open to children of all ages.

The headline Bond Auto Parts Modified class has been very competitive in 2014. Defending champion Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT has not yet found the dominance he showed last summer, recording just a single victory through the first five races of the season. He holds a slim 13-point lead on New York veteran Leon Gonyo, with opening day winner Joey Roberts just two more points back.

Jessey Mueller and Jason Durgan have also visited the winner’s circle, and nearly every driver in the field has shown competitive muscle. Veterans Ron Proctor and Vince Quenneville, Jr., continue to be a force, and the recently-returned Johnny Scarborough is already up to speed. Up-and-comers Jamie LaFountain, Cody Sargen, Dave Snow, and rookies Billy Lussier and Jason Reome also continue to improve weekly.

The entry-level Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock class has yet to see a repeat winner, and long-time driver John McCarron carried his first checkered flag in last week’s three-segment special event. Chuck Bradford and defending champion Jake Noble have enjoyed a close battle at the top of the point standings, though McCarron, Mike Whalen, Jr., Lacey Hanson, and brothers Bobby and Chris LaVair lurk closely behind.

Former champion Robert Gordon and 16 year-old Stephen Donahue each have a pair of victories in the Renegade class, while Scott MacMichael, Bruce Jaycox, and Todd Patnode have scored SK Light wins as the division builds a new base at Devil’s Bowl.

The Kids Bicycle Races are open to children of all ages; participants must bring their own bicycle and a helmet in order to compete. General admission for kids age 12 and under is free, like always, with admission just $12 for adults and $10 for seniors (age 62+). The “Fans First” program will give free admission to all New Hampshire residents who present valid identification. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., with racing at 7:00 p.m.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway will also host the annual “Coca-Cola Firecracker” – Vermont’s biggest and loudest Independence Day celebration – on Friday, July 4. The event features a 100-lap Late Model special, the wild-and-crazy Enduro Series, the rest of the weekly racing divisions, and a massive fireworks display.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4. For more information, call (802) 265-3112 or visit www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com.
