Brown’s Night sets up Championship Home Stretch at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

First-ever “Bake A Cake” event on tap Friday night

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car racing fans and drivers alike are itching to get back to Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, August 21 for the annual Brown’s Quarried Slate/Brown’s Orchard & Farm Stand Night. As autumn approaches, the championship battles are beginning to wind down and the action is heating up for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

A white-hot clash for the Bond Auto Parts Modified division title awaits as Ron Proctor and Vince Quenneville Jr. sit just four points apart at the top of the standings. Two-time champion Proctor, of Charlton, NY, leads the field with a pair of race wins in his pocket. Brandon, VT driver Quenneville won the six-race Yandow Sales & Service/John Deere Spring Championship Series between Devil’s Bowl and Airborne Park Speedway, but has yet to win a season-long crown on the Devil’s Bowl blacktop. Recent feature race winner Greg Atkins of Clintonville, NY is also in the hunt, lurking just 33 points behind Proctor.

Eight different drivers have won in eight main events in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model division, but Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT has had an impressive seven podium finishes and leads Robert Bryant Jr. by 47 points. Milton, VT’s Robert Gordon is aiming at his third title in the Brileya’s Chrysler-Jeep Renegades, and owns a 36-point advantage on West Rutland, VT’s Scott FitzGerald. Chris LaVair of Gabriels, NY tops the Portland Glass Mini Stock division after a dominant mid-summer run of five consecutive wins. LaVair has 56 points on Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT, who has won the last two races.

In addition to the racing, Devil’s Bowl Speedway will host its first-ever “Bake A Cake” event on Friday night as part of the Thomas Dairy Kids Club. Race fans of all ages are encouraged to bring a homemade baked good to present to their favorite drivers at intermission.

The event’s sponsors will again be a big part of the night; feature race winners in all four divisions will receive special slate trophies carved in the shape of the State of Vermont, each weighing in at over 20 pounds, courtesy of Brown’s Quarried Slate. Race fans will also win prizes and gift certificates from both Brown’s Quarried Slate and Brown’s Orchard & Farm Stand of Castleton.

Regular general admission on Friday, August 21 is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., with racing at 7:00 p.m.
