Sunn Shining as The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway Returns to Action Sunday

Sportsman Modified top 10 shows diverse field; Midgets return to Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN, VT – Josh Sunn leads the way as the action returns to The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, August 30 at 6:00 p.m. Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland and Sherwin-Williams Paints of Rutland present a full program for the five-event Berlin Optical Expressions Dirt Track Series, featuring Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Stocks, and the Lucas Oil POWRi Outlaw Midget Series.

White River Junction, VT racer Sunn – a weekly competitor at Bear Ridge Speedway – has been arguably the best performer at the tight 3/10-mile Dirt Track since its opening last fall. Though he has yet to win in his five feature starts to date, Sunn has collected four finishes of either second or third place. He leads the point standings in the Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli Sportsman Modified division after the first two races of the 2015 season with a pair of runner-up showings.

The balance of the top 10 drivers is made up of pieces from many tracks in the region. Multi-time Accord (NY) Speedway champion Jackie Brown Jr. ranks second after finishes of fourth and sixth in the first two events. Bear Ridge regular Tim Hodge is third overall with legendary New York Capital District racer Kenny Tremont Jr. fourth. New Hampshire’s Robbie LaCroix, Allan Hammond, and Todd Buckwold – all regulars at Legion Speedway – sit 5-6-7 in points, followed by Albany-Saratoga (NY) Speedway’s Jack Gentile, and Devil’s Bowl asphalt regulars Billy Lussier and Vince Quenneville Jr.

Feature winners Darrell Older and Curtis Condon lead the Renegade division standings, followed closely by Matt Mosher; the trio is separated by just two points. The Portland Glass Mini Stocks have seen Jesse Durkee and Justin Severance visit victory lane, and they also sit just two points apart atop the standings.

The Lucas Oil POWRi Outlaw Midget Series debuts on Sunday featuring quick, lightweight, open-cockpit cars. Top runners include Rhode Island drivers Frank Malec and Lauryn Burd, Connecticut’s Dean Christensen and Jamie Spaulding, and Massachusetts youngsters Seth Carlson and Tim Gallant. Midget cars last visited Devil’s Bowl in 1984, when USAC legend Mel Kenyon won on the former dirt half-mile.

Regular general admission for Interstate All Battery Center/Sherwin-Williams Paints Night on Sunday, August 30 is just $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 4:00 p.m., with racing at 6:00 p.m.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT, four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4. For more information, visit www.DevilsBowlSpeedwayVT.com or call (802) 265-3112.
