“King of the Clay” 100 Features Sportsman Showdown in Devil’s Bowl Dirt Finale

Brown leads tight title race; support division specials on tap

WEST HAVEN, VT – Modified stock car driver “Downtown” Jackie Brown Jr. has found a comfortable groove on The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 2015, but he’ll be anything but relaxed on Sunday, October 4 in the track’s season finale. The Stove Depot presents the 100-lap “King of the Clay” event for the track’s Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli Sportsman Modified division, and Brown has plenty on the line.

The former Accord (NY) Speedway champion has finished sixth or better each time that he has made the 300-mile round trip from his home in Hurley, NY. Brown and car owners Albert and Florence Sanville of Canaan, NH find their No. 92 Flo’s Concessions entry with a slim three-point lead on Josh Sunn entering the championship finale for the Berlin Optical Expressions Dirt Track Series, and will try to lock up the title with their first victory in the “King of the Clay” 100.

Sunn, of White River Junction, VT, is also seeking his first Devil’s Bowl win, but has three runner-up finishes to his credit on The Dirt Track since its opening last fall. Kenny Tremont Jr. and Tim Hodge are also well within reach of the title, as both sit within 13 points of Brown’s lead. Tremont is a two-time winner on The Dirt Track, and Hodge has been a consistent threat all season. Other top contenders expected on Sunday include feature winners Tim LaDuc and Bobby Hackel, young guns Justin Comes, Trevor Rocke, and Anthony Alger, veterans Vince Quenneville Jr., Billy Lussier, and Jack Gentile, and 2014 champion Adam Pierson.

The support divisions have extra motivation on Sunday as well. The Mini Stock division will hold its richest race to date with a $500-to-win, 20-lap feature presented by Portland Glass of Rutland, VT. Fresh off his first career win, Brian Bishop of Bridport, VT holds the point lead over Justin Bishop and two-time winner Justin Severance. Darrell Older of Ballston Spa, NY will try to wrap up the title in the Renegade division, but has both Curtis Condon and Matt Mosher within 15 points of his lead. The 20-lap finale will pay $200 to win.

The rough-and-tumble MFT Sauce & Rub Co. Enduro Series will have double the excitement with races on both the 3/10-mile dirt track and the 1/2-mile asphalt track at Devil’s Bowl. Cory Gray of Rutland, VT has a narrow two-point lead of Brett Wood, with his son Zach Wood another four points behind, as each tries to capture the championship for the first time.

General admission for the The Stove Depot “King of the Clay” season finale at The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 2:00 p.m. with racing at 4:00 p.m.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT, four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4. For more information, visit www.DevilsBowlSpeedwayVT.com or call (802) 265-3112.
