Devil’s Bowl Speedway to Host Historic Same-Day Doubleheader at Vermont 200

Two-day asphalt weekend capped off by full dirt event Sunday night on September 10-11

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s biggest stock car racing event just got bigger. The annual “Vermont 200 Weekend” on September 10-11 will have two huge days of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing on both the half-mile Asphalt Track and the 3/10-mile Dirt Track, and on Sunday – for the first time in Devil’s Bowl history – both surfaces will run a full program on the same day.

Heritage Family Credit Union opens the weekend on Saturday, September 10 at 1:00 p.m., with qualifying and a 50-lap main event for the Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds. Saturday also has qualifying for the Rosen & Berger Renegades and Portland Glass Mini Stocks, non-winners “Shootout” races for all divisions including the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Models, Sportsman Modified and Renegade mechanic races, and a ladies-only Mini Stock “Powder Puff” race. HFCU members will be admitted free on Saturday only with proof of membership.

On Sunday, September 11, at 1:00 p.m., the Asphalt Track’s four weekly divisions will run their respective championship finales. The Late Model division will have qualifying and a 100-lap feature race, while the Sportsman Modifieds run a second feature for the weekend – the inaugural Leon Gonyo Memorial 50. The Renegades will run a 50-lap special and the Mini Stocks will race 25 laps. The 2016 track champions will be crowned in all four asphalt classes.

Sunday night at 6:30 p.m., the Dirt Track fires up for the twice-rescheduled “Vince Quenneville Sr. Memorial” presented by Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland. The Sportsman Modifieds will race a special 38-lap main event in honor of the late former champion, with Renegades and Mini Stocks also in action.

The weekend will be capped off on Sunday night by a first-of-its-kind, 50-lap Enduro for amateur drivers in entry-level cars. The track will be a 100-foot-wide open surface, and racers will choose either the asphalt on the outside or the dirt on the inside with every passing corner. While the asphalt is generally faster than the dirt, it will, by that point, be littered with clay and dust that will have been kicked up during prior action, making the race an unpredictably crazy affair. At minimum, a roll bar hoop with at least one driver’s door safety bar is required.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is offering both single-event pricing and package deals for general admission tickets and pit passes. The full three-show package is just $30.00 for adult general admission or $60.00 for a pit pass with a NASCAR membership. CLICK HERE for a full listing of admission prices and event information.

Parking and camping will be free and open from Friday, September 9 at 12:00 noon until Monday, September 12 at 12:00 noon. The track’s annual bonfire and barbeque party will be held on Saturday night following the on-track action; admission for the party is $5.00 per person, or free with a pit pass or “all events” general admission ticket.

“We’ve been talking about a two-surface show for two years, so it’s exciting that we’re able to finally put it together on Vermont 200 Weekend when there’s a ton of great racing going on,” Devil’s Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said. “With the Vermont 200 Weekend, we always say, ‘Come for the party and stay for the racing.’ It’s going to be a great weekend for all types of short track racing fans.”

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of Exit 2 off of U.S. Route 4 and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.
