DIRTcar Sanction Makes Historic Return to Devil’s Bowl and Airborne Park Speedways

WEST HAVEN, VT – What was old is new again at Devil’s Bowl Speedway and Airborne Park Speedway: DIRTcar Racing has returned to sanction Modified competition at both tracks in 2025. Track operators Mike and Alayne Bruno reached the agreement with DIRTcar officials after discussions that began two years ago.
For Devil’s Bowl – a half-mile oval in West Haven, VT – the sanction agreement ends a 41-year drought with the DIRTcar organization, as it worked with the group for a single season in 1984 under the direction of track founder C.J. Richards. For Airborne Park – a 4/10-mile oval in Plattsburgh, NY – the 2025 season picks up an intermittent relationship with DIRTcar and will be the track’s 16th season under the DIRTcar banner; the most recent association was in 2023, prior to the Brunos taking over promotional duties.
DIRTcar Racing is the world’s premier sanctioning body for dirt track racing. With over 4,000 members racing at nearly 200 dirt tracks around North America, DIRTcar sanctions and promotes weekly dirt racing, regional and national touring series, and premier events for Modifieds, Late Models, Stock Cars, and Sprint Cars. It operates under the World Racing Group (WRG) umbrella, which includes the World of Outlaws, Super DIRTcar Series, Xtreme Outlaw Series, the DIRTVision live video streaming service, and several other motorsports properties.
Under the agreement, DIRTcar will sanction the Small Block “358” Modified division and the entry-level Mini Stock class at both tracks, as well as the intermediate-level Sportsman Modifieds at Airborne Park. A new seven-race championship series has been created for the 358 Modifieds at Devil’s Bowl under the DIRTcar name; the weekly Sportsman Modifieds at Devil’s Bowl will remain independent for the 2025 season.
In addition, both the traveling DIRTcar 358 Modified Series and the DIRTcar Sportsman Series East Region will visit Airborne Park Speedway for a major event on Thursday, May 22.
“It has taken a lot of work and many discussions, but I’m proud to finally have our two tracks in the DIRTcar fold,” Mike Bruno said. “I am always trying to look a few years ahead, and I could see that being partnered with DIRTcar would benefit both tracks, our drivers, our race teams, and the DIRTcar organization as well. We’re looking forward to getting 2025 started even more now, and I believe this is just the beginning of what we can accomplish together.”
Dating back to 1984, when C.J. Richards operated both tracks, Hall of Fame driver Kenny Tremont Jr. earned his first of 10 Devil’s Bowl championships when the track ran its final season of Big Block Modifieds during its lone year with DIRTcar sanction. Both tracks also had a DIRTcar-sanctioned 320 Sportsman Modified class that season, with Frank Keene winning the title at Devil’s Bowl and Charlie Wilbur reigning at Airborne Park. In Airborne’s most recent run with DIRTcar in 2023, Chris Raabe won the 358 Modified championship and Travis Bruno took the Sportsman title.
