Wild-and-crazy smashfest to cap Devil’s Bowl Speedway season

WEST HAVEN, VT – The Vermont 200 Championship Weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway just got a little crazier. The title race for the four-round Enduro Series has been moved from its original October date and added to the card on Sunday, September 15, concluding a two-day stock car racing grand finale.

Enduro events have a “survival of the fittest” attitude filled with crashes and wild maneuvers. Any four- or six-cylinder car, light-duty pickup truck, or minivan that meets specifications may compete, with only safety modifications permitted. Races are run without caution flags and disabled vehicles are left wherever they may lie, including on the racing surface; red flags are used only in the event of emergencies.

Eric “Mongo” Messier of Hinesburg, VT and “Wild Bill” Fountain of Altona, NY are deadlocked in a tie for the Enduro Series championship lead. Each driver has survived for a victory, a runner-up finish, and a third-place finish to tie at 144 points. Andy “Mowgli” Botala and Brett “Woody” Wood are tied in third place at 122 points with Kevin Sorel just two points back, and are still within reach of the overall title.

A graduated purse has been posted for the 75-lap Enduro Series finale. With under 24 entries, the winner will receive $350, while 25-29 cars will raise the purse to $500 to win. With a field of over 30, the prize increases to $750, and 50 cars or more will give the race a whopping $1,500 winner’s share.

The addition of the Enduro brings the Vermont 200 Championship Weekend to include a total of 14 championships decided, including Track Championship and Rookie of the Year titles in all four of Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly racing divisions and the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series.

Vermont 200 Championship Weekend is the final event of the 2013 season at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, highlighted by 100 laps of feature racing for both the Modified and Late Model divisions. First-round qualifying and special non-winner’s “Shootout” races will begin at 1:30pm on Saturday, September 14, followed by party with a pig roast barbeque and live music at 6:00pm. The season wraps up with championship main events on Sunday, September 15 beginning at 1:30pm.

On-site attractions include a video arcade, the Interstate Batteries Fun Bus tour, the Daredevil community racing division, and the Devil’s Den lounge. Two-day general admission is $25 for adults, with one-day passes available for $10 on Saturday and $20 on Sunday; Saturday and two-day admission tickets also include entrance to the pig roast and party. Children age 12 and under will be admitted free both days. Two-day pit area admission is $35. Free camping is open Friday, Sept. 13 at 12:00 noon through Monday, Sept. 16.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT, four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4. For more information, visit www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com or call (802) 265-3112. Devil’s Bowl Speedway is on Facebook at facebook.com/DevilsBowlSpeedway and on Twitter at @DevilsBowlSpeed.
