SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT: Devil’s Bowl Celebrates Sugar & Spice Restaurant’s First Decade

Rutland County drivers and cars displayed at 10th anniversary event

MENDON, Vt. – It’s not very often in Vermont that racecars are outside in December, but on Saturday, December 5, three of Devils Bowl Speedway’s fastest drivers and their racecars were out at the Sugar & Spice Restaurant and Gift Shop in Mendon to help honor the 10th anniversary of the award-winning landmark.

The West Rutland father-son team of Scott and Andrew FitzGerald had their cars on display at the celebration along with hometown driver Seth Bridge of Mendon. A live radio broadcast with popular Vermont radio personality Steve “Corm” Cormier also aired on 101 The One.

Owned by Walt and Lynn Manney, Sugar & Spice sits just minutes from both Rutland and Killington and has a heritage dating back more than 150 years to the Civil War era. Sugar & Spice is a classic family-style restaurant built inside a fully-operational Vermont maple sugar house.

Each summer since 2012, Devil’s Bowl Speedway and Sugar & Spice have teamed up to host the “Great North American Pancake Eating Championships” as part of the annual Double Stack Night race event, and the hilariously fun family affair has quickly become one of the speedway’s signature events.

“The Sugar & Spice Restaurant has been a terrific partner for Devil’s Bowl Speedway these past few seasons, and we wanted to congratulate them and support them as they celebrated ten years of serving the best breakfast and lunch in the area,” Dick Therrien, Devil’s Bowl Speedway Marketing Director, said. “It was great that we were able to have three local racecars this late in the year to display roadside for the event. The weather was beautiful and people came out in force to help Walt and Lynn celebrate their special day.”

Walt Manney was ecstatic about the fine turnout. “This has been so overwhelming today,” he said on 101 The One on Saturday morning. “So many of our friends have joined us here today, plus numerous friends from the racing community have also stopped by. I would like to thank Scott and Andrew FitzGerald and Seth Bridge for putting their cars on display for us. It is greatly appreciated.”

Sugar & Spice is open daily from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Breakfast is served all day, with lunch available beginning at 11:00 a.m. For more information on Sugar & Spice, visit the iconic red-roofed maple sugar house on Route 4 in Mendon, Vt., or click on www.vtsugarandspice.com.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway will celebrate its own landmark anniversary in 2016 with its 50th season of racing. The full asphalt and dirt stock car racing schedules are expected to be announced soon.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4 and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.
