Twin 25s, Kids Rides Ready for Re-Re-Rescheduled Dirt Track Opener

Fans and racers doing the “sun dance” after three rainouts

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – It can’t rain forever, can it? Devil’s Bowl Speedway Dirt Track fans and drivers are doing a “sun dance” hoping for nice weather on Sunday, June 12, as the Rutland County family entertainment facility tries again to finally open its gates for its first event on the 3/10-mile clay oval. While Devil’s Bowl’s half-mile Asphalt Track has had perfect weather on Saturdays, rain has wiped out dirt racing on three straight Sundays.

Brown’s Quarried Slate and Brown’s Orchard & Farm Stand of Castleton, Vt., will present twin 25-lap feature races for the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division to kick off what will be the first-ever dirt race at Devil’s Bowl under sanctioning from the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Drivers will race for championship points at the track, state, and national levels, competing against racers from more than 60 speedways in North America, including both the dirt and asphalt surfaces at Devil’s Bowl.

Drivers who are expected to compete on the Dirt Track include seven-time Devil’s Bowl champion Kenny Tremont Jr., former dirt and asphalt champion Vince Quenneville Jr., Devil’s Bowl veteran Tim LaDuc, and regional standouts Adam Pierson, Bobby Hackel, Josh Sunn, Jackie Brown Jr., Derrick McGrew, and Justin Comes.

“The list of talented drivers coming to Devil’s Bowl this year is exciting, and watching them finally get to race in not one, but two features this Sunday night will be great,” track promoter Mike Bruno said. “The clay has been in great shape all spring, and the one practice session that we got in last month had a very fast, very tacky surface that should put on a great show.”

The intermediate Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade and entry-level Portland Glass Mini Stock divisions will also be in action on Sunday night, along with the popular kids racecar rides, presented by Thomas Dairy, during intermission. Darrell Older of Ballston Spa, N.Y., will open defense of his Renegade championship from 2015, while the Mini Stock title race is wide open following champion Brian Bishop’s jump to the Renegades.

Regular general admission on Sunday, June 12 will be $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for kids age 12 and under. All general admission grandstand tickets and pit pass wristbands purchased at the rained-out event on May 22 will be honored. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m., with racing at 6:00 p.m.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of Exit 2 off of U.S. Route 4 and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.
