“Whelen Wednesday” Set For Devil’s Bowl Speedway Dirt on August 10

Mid-Season Championships at special mid-week date

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway is going mid-week racing next Wednesday night, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. The 3/10-mile Dirt Track will host the double-points Mid-Season Championship presented by Whelen Engineering, which has been rescheduled after being postponed by rain last Sunday.

The Dirt Track will continue to race every Sunday night as planned, but with only three events completed so far in 2016 due to many weather cancellations, the “Whelen Wednesday” event was created as a special event to pack as much racing into the rest of the season as possible. The event will have regular admission pricing.

“We’re pretty sick of the rain this summer and we want to be able to have as much racing as we can for our dirt fans,” Devil’s Bowl promoter Mike Bruno said. “If all goes according to plan, we should have the Whelen Wednesday show done by 9:30 p.m. so everyone can get back home at a decent time.”

The three weekly divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be racing for double championship points at the “Whelen Wednesday” special. Just 13 points separate the top three drivers in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division, as leader Bobby Hackel of Rensselaer, N.Y., has former Devil’s Bowl champions Kenny Tremont Jr. and Tim LaDuc close behind.

It’s even closer in the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade and Portland Glass Mini Stock divisions. Billy Duprey, Curt Condon, Aaron Fachini, and rookie Brian Bishop Jr. are only six points apart in the Renegades, while only two points cover the spread between Chris Conroy, Wayland Childs, and Mike Ryan in the Mini Stocks.

Prior to the “Whelen Wednesday” special, both the half-mile Asphalt Track and the 3/10-mile Dirt Track will be in action this weekend, August 6-7. The Asphalt runs on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. with fireworks, and Enduro, and the “C.J. Richards Memorial” Sportsman Modified 67-lap special, and the Dirt Track has double feature races for its three divisions on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of Exit 2 off of U.S. Route 4 and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.
