Support Division Penalties Levied from Vermont 200 Weekend

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has announced penalties in three support division classes from the Interstate All Battery Center Vermont 200 Weekend on September 15-16.

Saturday’s Super Stock 50 winner, Jim McKiernan, has been penalized for actions detrimental to stock car racing. McKiernan, in accordance with the Devil’s Bowl Speedway 2018 Rules & Regulations, is responsible for the actions of his team members as the driver and owner of the team. Two of McKiernan’s team members violated the following rule from the Devil’s Bowl Speedway 2018 Rules & Regulations:

  1. Pit Area Procedure
  2. All members and non-members shall properly sign into pit area in accordance with track policy, and no one shall be allowed in without proper registration and pit pass.

The two team members were hidden inside the McKiernan trailer and entered the pit area without obtaining the proper pit pass credentials, and each admitted to the offense when questioned. Since McKiernan’s car passed post-race technical inspection with no infractions, he will keep his victory and the championship points earned at the event. However, McKiernan has been fined $500 per team member for the violations.

Sunday’s Mini Stock feature winner, Jason Porter, has been disqualified from the Portland Glass 50. Porter was found in post-race inspection to have an electronic computer module that did not match his engine’s specifications. Porter forfeits all points and money earned in the feature race.

“The computer in question appears to not have been modified, but it was not originally stock for the car. I truly feel that Jason Porter made an oversight in using that part, but the rulebook clearly reads that mixing and matching of parts is not allowed,” Devil’s Bowl promoter Mike Bruno said. “Jason has been a good competitor of ours for several years and it’s unfortunate that this situation occurred.”

P.J. Bleau of Latham, N.Y., who was the original runner-up, will be credited with the official victory and the $1,000 purse; it was Bleau’s first Devil’s Bowl start of the 2018 season. Erin Aiken will be second, officially, with Kaleb Shepard third.

Saturday’s Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint race will see a disqualification to the original second-place finisher, Dakota Green, whose car was found to be without a muffler, which is required in the 2018 rulebook. Shawn McPhee, who crossed the finish line in third place, will inherit the runner-up position behind winner Austin Chaves. Evan Roberts moves up to third place.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway closes its 2018 season on Sunday, September 23 with the championship finale for the Sportsman Modified, Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and 500cc Mini Sprint divisions, as well as the return of the “Mountain Man” 200-lap Enduro paying $2,000 to win. General admission is $12 on Sunday with kids 12 and under admitted free. Grandstands open at 2:30 p.m. with racing at 4:00 p.m.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of U.S. Route 4, Exit 2, and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.
