Three Quennevilles Visit Victory Lane on Stove Depot Night!
West Haven, VT-There have been several nights when family wins have been the main theme this season at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Saturday night, it happened again as three Quennevilles visited victory lane on “Stove Depot Night.” The quests for track championships also heated up heading into next week’s season finale.
In the Sunoco Sportsman modified feature veteran campaigner Vince Quenneville parked his machine in victory lane for the first time this season. Frank Hoard III jumped from the pole position on the grid and cruised on the point for the first 14 laps. Jim Nagle wrestled the lead away from Hoard III on a lap 15 restart and appeared to be on his way to his first win of the season. Caution flew on lap 26, giving VQ2 the opportunity he was hoping for. Quenneville took advantage of being gifted the outside lane, where he had been effective all night, and swept around Nagle for the lead. Quenneville held off Nagle for the final three laps to collect the win. Nagle finished second, followed by Derrick McGrew Jr., Josh Sunn, and Hoard. Sunn entered the night trailing Joey Scarborough by 52 points in the points race but chipped away at the lead after Scarborough finished eighth. McGrew earned the Elmo’s Pit Stop Hard Charger Award for moving up 11 positions.
In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman main event, points leader Jason Quenneville captured his first win of the season. Quenneville has been the picture of consistency during the season but has been unable to visit victory lane. Boomer Patterson and Matt Wade brought the field to the green flag. Patterson led the first lap, but Wade used an outside move to take the top spot on lap two. Quenneville slipped past Wade on lap eight and drove off for his elusive first win of 2025. Alex Layn was charging late to take the second spot. Logan Denis, Wade, and Kamden Duffy rounded out the top five. Quenneville enters next weekend with a narrow lead over Denis in the championship race. Denis earned the Clean Engine Hard Charger Award for gaining seven positions.
Youngster Quinn Quenneville completed the family sweep, coming home with his first win of the season in the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint feature. Alex Reed led the opening two laps before being overtaken by Destin St. Clair. Meanwhile, Quenneville was storming to the front. St. Clair surrendered the lead to Quenneville on lap nine, and the Brandon, VT driver never gave it back despite a strong challenge from St. Clair. St. Clair placed second, Tyler Whittemore third, Alyssa Vanderpool fourth, and Chase Martindale fifth. Points leader Gage Provencher spun twice before succumbing to mechanical issues. He was credited with ninth place, allowing Quenneville to slice into the points championship lead.
The points competition in the Hoosier Racing Tire Novice Sportsman division has been the most tightly contested all season long, but this week’s 20-lap feature brought about some significant developments. After the heat races, Aiden Benoure led Raelin Dunham by two points and rookie Rob Steele by six. However, while Dunham and Steele both incurred problems in the event, Benoure charged from the 12th spot on the starting grid to collect his third win of the season. Russ Farr held the point for the first nine laps before James McLellan grabbed the lead. Benoure moved to second by lap 12, with Dunham also moving into the top five. Dunham’s car shut down on the frontstretch on lap 13, ending her night and dealing a blow to her championship hopes. Benoure navigated his way around McLellan on lap 15 and held on for the win. McLellan followed Benoure under the checkered flag, followed by Winston Forbes, Trevor Hurlburt, and Rob Steves. With Dunham credited with a 16th-place finish and Steele placing sixth, Benoure will head into the last race of the season in the catbird’s seat of the championship hunt.
The Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks competed in a pair of feature events. In feature #1, Chase Allen, who has been focusing on college for much of the season, dusted the cobwebs off his car and drove to a convincing victory. Allen started dead last on the field but drove through the pack to secure the lead by the halfway point and was never challenged. Brian Blake was second, Bob Wood third, Tyler Bell fourth, and Anthony Johnson fifth.
In the second Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks main event, Kaleb Shepard rolled to his second win of the season and extended his slim points lead. Shepard was on a mission as he fired from the tenth spot on the grid but cruised past the nine cars in front of him and took the lead on lap two. Jon Jordan attempted to stay with Shepard, but the #0 car was just too stout. Jordan finished second. Jeremy Brownell, who was returning from a bad incident a couple of weeks ago that forced him to miss a race with sore ribs, finished third despite fighting an ill-handling race car to keep within striking distance in the title race. Ryan Patch was fourth and Damian Olden fifth.
TJ Knight entered the night trailing Eric Friend by four points in the 9th State Cannabis championship race. In one of the most entertaining races of the season in the division, Knight went to victory lane for the second time this season to pull even with Friend heading into the final week of the season. Chad Merrill put the Starsky and Hutch car at the point for the first nine laps. Bradford Cram took a turn in the front of the pack on lap 10 before Knight took charge with five remaining laps. Cram, Friend, and Merrill finished second, third, and fourth after duking it out for several laps. Gordon Dimick completed the top five.
Dan Deforges easily drove to his second win of the season in the 50-lap enduro. Chandler Sumner led the first nine laps, but Deforges was on the move. Deforges gained the top spot on lap 10 and led the last 40 circuits to take the checkers. Eric Leno was second, Walter Scram third, Jim Henry fourth, and Eric Davis-Sicard fifth.
