Devil’s Bowl Crowned the 2025 Champions on Saturday Night

Halloween is still a little over a month away, and it wasn’t a full moon. However, if you didn’t know better, you would think there was something eerie in the crisp air at Devil’s Bowl Speedway Saturday night as several contenders in the track point battles were forced to struggle through issues. It was “Championship Night” presented by Brown’s Quarried Slate and Farmstand along with Heritage Family Credit Union at “Vermont’s Fastest Dirt Track,” with season-ending points crowns handed out in all six weekly divisions.

In the Sunoco Sportsman Modified 35-lap feature, Joey Scarborough, who began the evening with a comfortable 42-point cushion, wrapped up his first title with a fifth-place finish. Josh Sunn, the driver chasing him, settled for 10th, giving Scarborough the championship by 52 points. Tanner Siemons continued his late-season surge as he captured the main event win by leading the final 28 circuits. Eric Shaw and Marty Kelly led the field to the green, but Jim Nagle quickly jumped to the point. Nagle led until lap eight when Siemons, who was coming off a win Sunday night at Airborne Park, wrestled the lead away and drove away for the victory. Nagle, AJ Munger, Kelly, and Scarborough completed the top five. AJ Albreada earned the Elmo’s Pit Stop Hard Charger award after advancing from 19th on the grid to ninth.

On the opening lap of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman feature, disaster struck for one championship contender, and nearly for another. A multi-car pileup in turn two, right after the green flag waved, saw the second-place driver in points, Logan Denis, leave on the hook. Points leader Jason Quenneville, who came into the race with a 12-point advantage, was also involved in the melee but was able to continue. Katrina Leclaire, who has been fast all season but hasn’t been able to park her Miss Fire Motorsports machine in victory lane, finally was able to seal the deal. Leclaire fired from the pole position and led all 30 laps in a dominating fashion. Alex Layn charged through the field to put some pressure on Leclaire late, and was gifted a golden opportunity when caution flew with two laps to go when Quenneville’s car rolled to a stop. On the restart, Leclaire was quick on the trigger to re-establish her lead, while William Lussier Jr. slipped inside of Layn to keep him occupied. That was just enough to allow Leclaire to pull away for the win, completing the family trifecta with her husband, Josh, and mother Bobby Hults, who both won earlier in the season. Layn held off Lussier for second. Lussier settled for third, followed by Marty Hutchins and Cody O’Brien. O’Brien was the recipient of the CleanEngine Amsoil Hard Charger award after advancing 12 spots.

Even with his issues, Quenneville clinched the track championship by 13 points over Layn and 14 over Dennis.

Aiden Benoure came into the Hoosier Tire Novice Sportsman feature with a 13-point advantage over Rob Steele for the points title. Benoure drove to a solid sixth-place finish, enough to stave off Steele by 23 points for the championship. Steele placed ninth. Russell Farr, who was driving a borrowed car from Alan Hewitt after his car lost an engine last week, rolled to a flag-to-flag win. Farr jumped from the pole to the point and held the top spot the entire 25 laps. Chris Sumner drove the wheels off his car trying to run down the leader, but every time Sumner seemed ready to pounce, Farr had the answer. Sumner held on to cross the line second. Trevor Hurlburt was third, Winston Forbes fourth, and Brogan Roberts fifth.

The night didn’t begin well for 500cc Mini Sprint points leader Gage Provencher as gremlins hindered him for the second straight week in his heat race. Provencher also took a scenic tour off turns one and two in the feature, but he was able to overcome his issues to claim back-to-back points championships. Levi Cram faced no such concerns as he debuted a new ride, the former Ray Hanson car, and cruised to an easy feature win, his first of the season. Cram started on the outside of the front row, sprang to the lead on the opening lap, and was never challenged, leading from start to finish. Destin St. Clair came home second, Quinn Quenneville third, Alyssa Vanderpool fourth, and Tyler Whittemore fifth. Provencher finished the 2025 campaign 32 points in front of his closest challenger, Quenneville.

Ninth State Cannabis Crown Vic title contenders Eric Friend and TJ Knight entered the season finale tied for the lead in the standings, so this division would be easy to settle. The competitor who recorded the highest finish in the feature would wear the crown. When the dust had settled, Friend crossed the line second and Knight third, handing Friend the championship by just three points. Ritchie Turner, a regular at the Airborne Park Speedway, paid a visit to Devil’s Bowl and played the role of spoiler as he captured his first win at the track. Turner started at the back of the field but moved to third on the opening lap before the caution flew. On the restart, Turner zipped around the entire field to grab the point again and drove off to take the win. Upon inspection, however, it was discovered that Turner was racing with illegal tires and was disqualified. That moved Friend up to the top spot. Knight was second, Bradford Cram third, Jarrod Colburn and Scott Richner fifth.

Kaleb Shepard led Jeremy Brownell by 15 points entering the final Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stock feature of the season, and seemed well on his way to the championship. Shepard had passed Brownell on the track and was navigating toward the front. Shepard saw his hopes come to an abrupt end, however, as he got caught up in a scrum on the front stretch that caused enough damage to end his night. Brownell was the beneficiary as he finished sixth and collected the points championship by 11 points over Shepard and 16 over Tyler Bell. Cody Dion led the opening seven laps, but the battle was on behind him. Jon Jordan, who started 13th, took the lead from Dion on lap eight and managed to fend off a late effort by Eric Messier to take the checkers. Messier began 18th before picking off car after car in his journey towards the front, coming up just a little short. Jake Mallory, Bob Wood, and Dion rounded out the top five.

Tim LaDuc sliced his way through the lineup quickly to take the lead, and lapped nearly the entire field to win the 75-lap Enudro. It was the second Enduro win of the year for the “Orwell Express.” LaDuc began in the 20th spot but had taken the lead by lap 15 and was never challenged, lapping nearly the entire field. Walter Scram led the early laps after getting the benefit of starting third, and held in for a top-five finish. Brent Wilbur finished second, followed by Scram, Eric Leno, and George Wanner.

Andrew Piper drove Adam Piper’s No. 66 to victory in the mechanic’s race for the modifieds. Taylor Jones claimed the Mini Stock mechanic’s race.
