Tyler Whittemore and Joey Scarborough Score Saturday Night Victories at Devils Bowl

West Haven, VT-The Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints took center stage Saturday night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway with a “Mini Sprint Special,” on a picture-perfect evening for dirt track racing in the Green Mountain State. The competition was tightly contested in every division, making it a thrilling night for the fans.
The Mini Sprints raced three 10-lap segments, with the driver accumulating the best overall average earning the first-place trophy. Pittsford, Vermont’s Tyler Whittemore enjoyed the best night of his career as he claimed the checkered flag in two of the three segments to capture the top spot on the podium. Veteran Scott Bachand dominated the first segment with Carm Isabella second, John Smith third, Quinn Quenneville fourth, and Levi Cram fifth. A sixth-place run by Whittemore put him behind the eight ball, but he was not to be denied. Wins by Whittemore in segments two and three sparked his rally for the overall victory. Rounding out the event standings were Scott Bachand, Alex Reed, John Smith, and Trevor Jaques.
Defending track champion Joey Scarborugh survived an intense duel with Tanner Siemons to earn his first win of the season in the 30-lap Sunoco Sportsman Modified feature. Scarborough and Siemons led the field to the green flag, with Scarborough nabbing the early lead. Siemons powered around Scarborough on an early restart and stayed at the front of the pack until a red flag period created by a multi-car incident in turn one. When racing resumed, Siemons wasn’t done yet. He stuck his nose inside of Scarborough several times over the final 15 circuits but could not complete the pass. Vince Quenneville drove around the track comfortably in the third spot. Jimmy Ryan came out on top of an exciting fight with AJ Munger and Dave Camara to place fourth. Kevin Chaffee charged from the 17th spot on the grid to complete the top five and win the Elmo’s Pit Stop Hard Charger award and $100.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman 25-lap feature was a battle of attrition with a slew of cars involved in incidents and falling by the wayside. None of that concerned Cody O’Brien, who fired from the pole position and was never challenged for a flag-to-flag victory. O’Brien led the first four circuits before a massive eight-car pileup in turn four turned on the caution lights. After the carnage was cleared, O’Brien went back to work, leading the rest of the laps to secure the seemingly easy win. “Fast” Freddie Little also had a good car and had several shots at O’Brien on a slew of restarts, but the 27X Butch Jelly-inspired car was too stout. The best race was taking place behind the top two as William Lussier, Don Williams, William Duprey, and Bobbi Hults jockeyed for position. Little crossed the line second, Lussier was third, Williams fourth, and Trevor Hurlburt fifth. William Lussier picked up the Next Play Performance Hard Charger award and $50.

Two-time Mini Sprint champion Gage Provencher roared from the ninth starting spot to take the lead in the final stages and drove to victory lane to score his first career win in the Northern Refrigeration Novice Sportsman Modified feature. Chris Sumner sprang from the first row to lead the first three laps, but Gavin Fleury was on the move from the eighth starting position. After caution on lap four, Fleury took the top spot and seemed in control. Meanwhile, Provencher was clearly sitting on a quick hot rod as he picked off car after car. On lap 14, the young wheelman known as “Pig Boy” wrestled the lead away from Fleury and drove away to collect the hardware. Fleury held on for second place. Rookie Chris Pierce continued to impress as he drove from 14th to third. Mark McGinnis and Matt Little rounded out the top five.
In the Mini Stock Low Handicap feature Gerard Jordan Jr. showed patience as he took advantage of others’ misfortune to capture his first win of the season. Quinton Bishop led the early laps and did his best to hold on despite smoke bellowing from the tailpipe of his entry for several laps. After Bishop faded, Jayde Pope briefly assumed the lead until mechanical issues ruined his chances. With problems hindering his competitors, Jordan Jr. stormed to the front and kept second-place Ron Alger at an arm’s length to claim the checkers. Mike Fleury was third, Andrew Bordeau fourth, and Nick Mellotti fifth.
In the Mini Stock High Handicap feature, last week’s winner, Chris Charboneau, appeared destined to make it two in a row, but Jeremy Brownell Jr. had other plans. Brownell Jr. ducked a late-race crash to park his car in victory lane, holding off a hard-charging Brandon Osher. Brian Blake led the first four trips around the speedway before Charboneau stripped the top spot from him. After being tapped from behind and making a remarkable save on lap 12, Brownell Jr. established control and staved off the challenge from Osher, who had passed Charboneau for the runner-up position. Chaboneau placed third, Tyler Bell fourth, and Jeremy Brownell fifth.
James Norton outlasted a stellar group of 25 entries to win the first Enduro Series race of 2026, a 50-lap affair. Regular contenders Dan Desforges and Tim LaDuc seemed to be the early favorites, but both fell victim to issues with their cars. Walter Scram navigated his way through the field to spend some time on the point before Norton took charge. Norton had to hold his breath when he blew a right rear tire out of turn four coming to the checkers, but he was able to glide to the finish line several lengths ahead of Maverick Mitchell.
One of the marquee events of the summer rolls into Devil’s Bowl with the annual Northeast Crate Nationals two-day show on Memorial Day weekend. The DirtCar 358 Modifieds will headline the schedule on Saturday, with the Sportsman going 100 laps for $5,000 on Sunday. The Limited Sportsman, Novice Sportsman, 500cc Mini Sprints, Mini Stocks, and Crown Vics will also be in action. Grandstand admission is $20, Infield $30 and Kids 12 and under are admitted free. Pit Passes are $45. All passes are good for the entire weekend. Grandstands open at 5:30 pm. Racing begins at 7 pm both nights.
